Transitional Housing

The goal of the IFW shelter is to provide a short-term (less than two years) home for women and children escaping domestic violence or sexual assault. The shelter gives them a safe home while legal cases are sorted, family arrangements are made, or simply while they emotionally recover. In addition, IFW seeks to empower those women to live independently, if necessary.

We find that after two years, many women are employed and financially stable enough to live independently; however, they still struggle with the emotional tax of the idea of living "alone." This drives many of them back into conflictual families or marital relationships.

In addition, the high-security nature of the shelter home requires that women are home early and do not disclose where they stay, and restricts how much they can "go out." This limits their ability to build a social and emotional support network for themselves. This, again, puts them at risk for returning to dangerous or unhealthy relationships.

We propose a program of transitional housing for such women. We seek to obtain land and small (1bhk), independent houses where such women can live for a period of time (six months-one year), growing in independence, healthy social networks, and financial stability while still benefiting from the emotional support and guidance of IFW.

Such a program would be self-supporting, as after the initial purchase, rent collected from residents would recycle back to supporting those in need at the shelter. It would increase the value of IFW's work by reducing the number of women who revert back to dangerous relationships, or who are forced to return to the shelter for help soon after leaving.

Contact us if you are interested in supporting such an endeavor!

Vocational Training

Vocational training and in-house employment are essential, as victims of abuse deal with depression, anxiety, or social issues that often make outside employment difficult. Many also have never received training in employable skills. IFW desires to equip its residents with income-generating skills and life skills that will empower them as they transition back to self-sustaining lives. Currently, we offer opportunities in two vocational-training programs. Get in touch to learn more or call us to inquire about products at +91 9740313681.
